How to stop raiding the fridge when you’re bored

If you yourself mindlessly raiding the fridge when you’re bored and not hungry, this is for you.

Mindless eating is one of the biggest causes of weight gain. We’ve all done it, you’re not alone.

To help you out, I’ve written this short blog post to help you implement one simple tweak to help you shrink your waistline.

We all know fruit and vegetables are good for us, right? They’re packed with nutrients and low in calories. They’re full of fibre and keep us feeling fuller for longer.

So instead of mindlessly cutting off little slices of cheese (no I don’t have a secret camera in your kitchen) I’m inviting you to try this instead:

One of the simplest hacks I use to ensure I eat more fruit and eat less processed food is to dedicate an entire shelf in my fridge to fruits.

Literally, when I open the fridge, the FIRST THING I see is…

👉 Strawberries

👉 Raspberries

👉 Blueberries

👉 Grapes

👉 Kiwi (yes, I like them cold)

It’s crucial that the shelf is at eye level.

Not at the top, not at the bottom, but exactly where your eyes fall when opening the door.

The packs are opened, and they’re readily prepared (washed & tops chopped off the strawberries), making them an easy go-to.

If you’re someone who often finds yourself opening the fridge when you’re bored, frustrated, stressed or tired, this will work perfectly because…

✅ It means consciously “turning down” the fruit as the first choice before selecting something else

✅ It interrupts the default pathway of grabbing something processed

✅ It helps us to eat more mindfully.

It’s simple, easy and straightforward. Yes, it requires a little prep ahead of time but it’ll pay dividends in the future.

Yours,

Dr Aileen
